ILA is not really about mythology—it's about identity. Rashmi uses Sudyumna's transformation into Ila as more than a supernatural event; it becomes a powerful metaphor for questioning the rigid ideas we inherit about strength, gender, power, and selfhood.

The emotional struggle feels more important than the physical transformation, and that is where the novel finds its greatest strength.

One aspect I genuinely appreciated was that the story doesn't rush toward easy answers. Sudyumna's resistance to becoming Ila feels believable because it is rooted in everything he has been taught to value. Watching that certainty slowly unravel makes the character's journey engaging.

The novel invites readers to consider whether vulnerability is really weakness or simply another form of strength.

The writing has an almost dreamlike quality in places, fitting the mythological setting. The world of gods, celestial laws, and destiny creates an immersive atmosphere, while the fantasy elements add intrigue without overshadowing the emotional core.

The introduction of the ancient conflict that eventually leads to the werewolf-vampire mythology is an unexpected twist. Initially, it feels disconnected from Ila's personal journey, but it gradually hints at a much larger universe that the series intends to explore.

What impressed me most is that the novel refuses to reduce identity to a simple binary or a single lesson. Instead, it suggests that every human being carries contradictions, and true wholeness comes from accepting every part of oneself. That's a mature and meaningful idea, especially within the framework of mythological fiction.

As the opening book in the LUNA series, ILA succeeds in laying a strong emotional and thematic foundation while leaving enough unanswered questions to spark curiosity about what comes next.

Overall, ILA is a thoughtful, imaginative debut that dares to explore difficult questions about identity, transformation and acceptance without losing sight of its mythological roots. It may not be a perfect novel, but it is a sincere and ambitious one, and that sincerity gives it lasting impact.
